Google responds to the ‘hype’ of ChatGPT and launches its competitor: Apprentice Bard in tests
The effective results of ChatGPT are a potential threat to search engines, so Google is starting to mention its artificial intelligence (AI) technology to prevent such a chatbot from becoming a strong rival.

The tech giant wants to compete with ChatGPT, so it is working on the ‘Atlas’ project intending to create a chatbot called Apprentice Bard that answers questions and stores feedback to see if the answers are satisfactory.
Apprentice Bard was tested among company employees after a “recent general meeting where workers raised concerns about the company’s competitive advantage in AI given the sudden popularity of ChatGPT, which was launched by OpenAI,” CNBC notes.

Jeff Dean (Google’s head of artificial intelligence) told employees that “the company has much more reputational risk from providing incorrect information, and therefore is moving more conservatively than a small startup.”
Google could officially launch its chatbot this year, as the tech company has long touted itself as a pioneer in artificial intelligence.
What technology will be used?
Apprentice Bard will use LaMDA and Language Model for Dialogue Applications conversation technology, and in connection with its use, users enter a question into a dialog box, get a response, and then provide feedback on the response.
Said chatbot replaced the previous artificial intelligence called Meena, a version that was released internally and later discontinued.
Availability Date
Apprentice Bard is in the internal testing phase and will not be officially released until Google developers give it the go-ahead to compete with ChatGPT.
